The Innocent Art
THE SPECIAL MOVEMENT is a sociological phenomenon, characterized by the new trend of society to help, stimulate and emphasize the value and talent of challenged people in different fields: sports, education, work, music, art, etc.
THE INNCOCENT ART summarizes the symbolic meaning of the work of a ‘special artist’ by its mental challenge; as well as the doodles produced by the innocence of a very little child, in its first years. They are different artists; with different works of art. It is the whole collection of artistic expressions associated with the total lack of intention, naivety, spontaneity and innocence in its most pure term. Free from premeditation and prejudice. Free from the hardness of the primitive and historically contaminated judgment values of society. They haven’t lost their minds and souls of children. They have ability to express with freedom and precision everything they want through secure traces of their brushes.
In synthesis, the contribution of the Innocent Art carries the aesthetic orientation, the symbolic meaning and the personality of the ‘special artist’ by its mental challenge. There isn’t bibliography or records regarding the artistic work of this special kind of artists. This is the reason why “The Innocent Art of Veronica Pacheco” constitutes the description of the art genre of a special artist.
The ‘normal’, ‘gifted’ and ‘special’ artist have the same rights to develop and show their art. This presentation is going to have a great effect in society: it will wake up the spirit of scientific research and a lot of controversy.
From the educational perspective, it is a contribution to art teaching because it describes a real fact, an indisputable result and the value that each one of us puts will be depend in each context.
The method that Verito uses is a precious model. It is a method that could be applied as teach art to mentally challenged people; as long as their challenge and family support allows them. The most important conclusions are:
“…The art professor requires art sensibility, senses and emotions.
Challenged people, not only have some mental and/or physical limitations, they also have natural talents, just as a ‘normal’ person has personal characteristics to learn.
The main relationship between the art professor and the apprentice must be the search of satisfaction, to teach and learn; everything else comes naturally.
The art professor has to make an inner evaluation to establish criteria, priorities, schedule, abilities, efficiency, before creating expectations or forecasts to its own self. Teaching a challenged person requires patients and the results cannot be expected in a short period of time.
Daily experiments, with positive and successful results should be taken as methods to apply teaching.
This method is an instrument, a work tool, that doesn’t exclude the use of other methods of traditional teaching.
It can be applied without prejudice, having some requirements of context.
A methodic system can be created with its own forms to control and evaluate from time to time. It will help to keep the information in a data base to change tactics and procedures if there is no improvement in a significant period of time.
The period of time of the evaluations must be at least for six months or annual. It is not wise to evaluate in less time because the improvements are slow and little by little.
This method can be constantly improved by changing some elements or context; it can be developed with new contributions and discoveries.
The benefit of this method will go to the artists, professors and the family of the future apprentice and also, to the society (…)”.
